XBMC is a free and open source media player developed by the XBMC Foundation, a non-profit technology consortium. XBMC is available for multiple operating systems and hardware platforms, with a 10-foot user interface for use with televisions and remote controls. It allows users to play and view most videos, music, such as podcasts from the internet, and all common digital media files from local and network storage media.

It is a popular alternative to Windows Media Center for Home Theater PC . One of XBMC’s main features is its customizability. A variety of skins can change its appearance and various add-ons allow users to access online content on services such as YouTube, Spotify, Grooveshark and Pandora Radio.

As of version 12.3 (codename “Frodo”), there is a PVR (Personal Video Recorder) GUI frontend for Live TV with EPG (Electronic Program Guide), and high definition DVR (Digital Video Recording) support.

Features of XBMC:

XBMC can play all your music including mp3, flac, wav and wma formats. It has cue sheet, tagging support and smart playlists for ultimate control of your music collection.

XBMC can do Movies too! Supporting all the main video formats including streamable online media, XBMC can import, browse and play your Movie collection with ease.

The TVShow library supports episode and season views with posters or banners, watched tags, show descriptions and actors. Great for keeping track of your progress.

XBMC allows you to watch and record live TV all from the GUI interface. It works with a number of popular backends including MediaPortal, MythTV, NextPVR, Tvheadend and many more.

The real power of XBMC comes from the vast selection of user created Add-ons that are available though our repositories. There are Add-Ons for popular web services, applications and scripts. See which ones are currently available:
